Memorial Day

It was a very hot memorial day in Kansas!
Sam and Jake came over from Lawrence for brunch although we didn't all get up and around until it was pretty much already just lunch time. Mom made a french bread casserole that was SO yummy. Dylan made sweet potato hashbrowns and dad grilled sausages and then we had a make-your-own omelet bar set up on the back patio. Mom also steamed some handmade tamales that she had gotten from one of her students at school, and someone had chopped up a whole bowl of fruit. It was actually a ridiculous amount of food for 8 people, plus it was so hot out on the patio and the grill being on didn't help. We set up a fan which was nice but we were still sweating, but that didn't stop us from playing a round of croquet with Sam and Jake. We also set up the cornhole game (where you throw bean bags into a sloped wooden ramp with a hole in the middle of it) and played that a little.
Jake had to get back to Lawrence but before he left, we moved indoors and played a few rounds of Apples to Apples and then he taught us all a couple of games: Ling Ling Chi, and Big Fish Small Fish. They were both really funny but we just had enough time to learn them before he left so we really didn't get deep into playing them.
Shelley and mom both said how long they had been waiting for their kids to play together as adults so that was kind of cute before we all said goodbye. I told Shelley I'd also let Cole, her son, know about Brandon and I's show coming up in Vegas, since he lives there.
We kind of just lazed around the house for awhile and I played Bully more and showed Dylan and Mom how I got the guy to make out with other guys. Then later we had a 'pool tournament' in the basement since Dad got the pool table from Aunt Jan when she moved to Lawrence. I had forgotten the history of it, but Dad told us that Grandpa got the pool table for free by helping a guy in Russell who owned a pool hall. The guy had gotten new pool tables and was going to throw the old one out but my Grandpa took it instead and put it in their basement when my dad was a kid. My uncle took it later when he moved out and had it for awhile, but when he and Aunt Jan lived in Larned they didn't have room for it, so it was in Gene and Sharon's house in Paradise for a short time. It was always at Al's house by the time I remember it and on thanksgiving all us kids used to play our own version of pool where we would just roll the balls really fast towards each other, which resulted in countless crushed fingers but we kept playing it anyway.
I took some pics and posted them online so Brandon could see the pool table since neither one of us had been back since they got it and fixed up a little area in the basement for it.
Adrienne went home since she had to work in the morning so that was kind of sad. We went on a walk with the dogs before she left and then mom, Dylan and I watched some TV before bedtime.
