Body Don't Stop

We woke up and then went out to brunch with Johnny and Bea to the French Market Place, which is sort of our de facto place to take visitors out to eat. It's a fun atmosphere, we like the food, and it's just a block from our apartment. After that, we walked home and then got in the car to go to Amoeba. Dylan didn't want to go to Amoeba, so he just went to the Andrew Christian store with us, bought some shorts, and then he walked home while we went on to Hollywood. Johnny and Bea both had a good time shopping for records and CD's, and I found a Marlene Dietrich record that I pointed out to Johnny and said Dylan would like it, so he bought it for him. After we got back, it was time for our guests to head back to Bakersfield so we bid them adieu and wished them a safe trip home. I worked a little on recording, trying to make progress on my album but ended up working on my cover of Re-Flex's "Hurt" which is what I had been working on back when my computer cra...

My Debut!

Image
Today was a VERY, VERY big day for me!!! We got up and chatted with Kevin and then I got ready and headed to Hollywood - I wanted to finally buy those Scissor Sisters tickets that I had tried to get before. So, this time I got to the box office of the Palladium on time, and got two tickets! I walked over to Floyd's on Cahuenga and Selma to get my haircut, and then I went to Iguana on Hollywood Blvd. to try and find something to wear tonight. Club Blender's theme for the evening was Durrty Disco, so I wanted to find some Studio 54 type clothes, but couldn't decide on anything. I stopped by the grocery store on the way home to get the supplies for my dishes - there was to be a potluck at the Palms BEFORE Blender, and then Kevin and I would perform between the potluck and the actual club night. My dishes were going to be my mom's Hot Hamburger Dip, which I make often and it's always a hit - it was one of my favorite things my mom would make when I was younger. I als...

LA Pride - Day 1

I met Amy for lunch today to talk to her about my schedule and how busy I am going to be with my new job so I had to let her know that I wasn't going to be able to really be involved with SG for awhile. She was very understanding and we ended up having a nice lunch together. I was really worried about it, but it turned out that I was worried for nothing. It was day 1 of LA Pride and so I was in a great mood after work and wanted to get the party started! I stopped at Rite-Aid on my way home to get a photo album for the photos from Canada (which I had printed the other day), some booze (a huge bottle of Smirnoff), and some other odds and ends. When I got home, Dylan wasn't there yet, so I started working on "Winnipeg Beach" and ended up finishing a demo of it that I was really happy with. I burned it to a CD, e-mailed it to Brandon, and then headed down to meet Brad, Alf, Tommy and Ryan at Mickey's to kick Pride off. On the way, I called Brandon to have him li...

Beautiful, haunting, happy, and sad

It was sad waking up and knowing that we had to exit the beautiful country of Canada. We set the alarm early to the point of naivety. Considering all that we had done, and what little sleep we had done it on, obviously we should have known we were not going to rise and shine. We were sort of hoping that maybe we could take R up on his offer of giving us a more in-depth tour of Winnipeg, but after I hopped in the shower, he called and said he ended up having to work today at the pub where we had gone last night. The girls were getting ready next door and told us they were all going down to the Elephant and Castle for brunch and they wanted us to join them for one last meal together in Canada, but Dylan and I really wanted to go hang out with R one last time so we got a taxi over the river. Remembering the record store from last night, I decided I wanted to go check that out first, to hunt for a rare Voice of the Beehive "best of" album which was only released in Canada and ...

Clown Porn

It's sort of crazy at work now trying to transition out of this job and get my replacement hired. I got so many resumes over the weekend that I had to sort through and send the best ones on to Susan. After work, I finished a demo of the "clown porn" song that Shitting Glitter is working on for our friend Ginny McMath's one woman show, What Not To Do . We'll be writing the songs and performing them with her during the show if all goes as planned. Amy and AJ are writing most of them but I said I would do this one, and Amy wanted me to try and finish it up before I left for Kansas. Hello 2010, goodbye junk! NEW YEARS RESOLUTION LOG ENTRY 143 "Queer" by Thompson Twins, cassette album. The story behind this is that, after years of being a die-hard TT fan, somehow the fact that they released this in 1991 snuck right up on me. I was in Wal-Mart, of all places, obsessive/compulsively checking the sections of all my favorite artists, and lo and behold - ther...

So Dystopian

After work today, I finally got all my music stuff set back up. It has been way too long since I've been able to work on recording. Since I finally got my computer back and my data was saved a few weeks ago, I just haven't had the time to hook everything up again until now. I meant to work on this Clown Porn song for Shitting Glitter that we are doing for Ginny's show, What Not To Do , but I ended up messing around on this new song I had done a little demo for called "So Dystopian." Once I got into it, I just ended up going for it, and I did all the instruments and vocals, finishing the entire song pretty much in one night. It's kind of an ambient type of song, with the vocals done as a round. I really like it. Here are the lyrics: So Dystopian It's true - it feels so dystopian with you (I think I'm going to add another line in here but for now I just repeat the first one) Is it any way to spend the day not knowing what to do? Is it any way to p...
