Labor Day
It was a very nice, sunny and warm Labor Day and although we hadn't planned anything, we ended up getting invited to the annual Liquid Dreams pool party that is a fundraiser for the Tom of Finland Foundation, an organization that Dylan is really interested in volunteering for but hasn't gotten around to it yet. Tom of Finland is an artist who drew these stylized drawings of gay men, most of them are pretty erotic and adult, but the are very famous in the gay community. Anyway, our friend Viktor gets tickets to the event because he helps out with the graphics for the advertising, so we got to go with him and Marc last year; this year Viktor couldn't make it, so Marc took us and Brent.
The party was at a house in Reseda this year, on White Oak north of Roscoe (near Ben G's house). The place was a big ranch house with a huge backyard that the owners had done a lot of work on, and dubbed it "the Abbey of the Valley."
There was a grotto and swimming pool surrounded by "rocks" and trees, and a big waterslide and hot tub. There was a lot more girls this year than last year (I don't remember there being any last year), which was really not a plus in my book but it did keep the party from getting too 'out of hand' if you know what I mean.
One of the strangest things that happened was right after we got there, this guy recognized Marc and they ended up talking. It turned out that he was an old friend of Marc's family and they hadn't seen each other since Marc was probably 13 or so. The guy was now living on the property as a caretaker, so we got to go hang out in his air-conditioned house to escape the heat for a little while, and plus it just felt cool to be able to hang out in a place that was "off limits" to the regular party goers.
We hung out all afternoon until the party started winding down and we decided it was time to go get something to eat, since the only thing we managed to scrounge up from the party was one lousy, cold piece of pizza. It seemed like only the "vip's" got access to the food.
I dropped Marc and Brent off at Los Tacos and then I went to Fresh & Easy to get groceries to make dinner with.
