Rock Climbing at Joshua Tree

Image
Everyone woke up pretty early and in Camp Lesbo we had quite the breakfast spread going on. We had brought our own stuff, so I had a couple pop tarts and then cooked some eggs and sausage on one of the camp stoves the girls had brought. Dylan was in a huge hurry to get to the rock climbing site, so we ended up forgetting a few crucial things (the cooler, our food, etc) but it was fine. We all staked out this nice shaded area to set up in, and I ended up reading a lot in my book, “Blown for Good,” a Scientology expose which I ended up finishing later in the day. Chris, Dylan’s brother in law, had set up the rock climbing ropes with his friends and people were climbing all morning. Dylan finally decided it was his turn so I went with him and took the camera so I could capture the action. He did a really good job scaling a really steep rcck! There was also this little girl, couldn’t have been more than 3 or so, who climbed and it was so cute, she laughed and smiled the...

Lacrosse

This morning we woke up fairly early and drove up to Granada Hills High School, Dylan's alma mater, to watch his niece Cody's lacrosse match. Neither of us had ever seen a lacrosse game before so we didn't know what to expect. I guess I should have at least realized it would be outdoors and involve sunlight, but I didn't wear sunscreen or bring sunglasses. Luckily, Dylan had an extra pair of sunglasses, and his sister Tracy had sunscreen. The game itself was pretty fun to watch. In lacrosse, they carry these sticks with a net on the end, and then they try to carry the ball in the nets and launch them into the goals, so on that end it's just like soccer. Cody's team is very new so they are still learning the game and didn't do so well in terms of the score, but they all seemed to enjoy it and are, by all accounts, getting better with each match. After the game, we went to Jersey Mike's with Tracy, Cody, Caitlyn (Dylan's other niece/Tracy's d...

City Hall

Staples delivered my new desk today, although I still haven't gotten rid of my old desk and I'd really like to before they recarpet my office. So I'm going to wait for that to assemble the new desk. I had contacted LA Shares (www.lashares.org) about donating the old desks to them. I had to go take photos of the intersection of Willoughby and Seward, which is in very bad shape, for the meeting we were going to have with Councilmember LaBonge this afternoon. After I took the pictures, I stopped by our board president's place and he printed the photos. We made arrangement to car pool to the meeting, so around 1:30pm I went to the car wash and vacuumed my car and tidied it up. Then I picked up Ron (our president) and another board member, Mike, and we headed down to city hall. They hadn't been to the councilmember's office before but I had been several times so it was kind of fun leading the way. Getting through City Hall can be daunting if you haven't do...

Skating or Runway

I didn't make it to boot camp since I stayed up so late working on music last night. Nothing too fantastic happened at work. At home, Dylan and I were going to watch our shows, but it turned out they were not on because of the Winter Olympics in Vancouver. I have weird feelings about this because I should really have watched the male figure skating. When I was a kid, I LOVED the figure skating so much that I begged my dad to build us a skating rink in the yard and being that I generally would not shut up, I got my way. My dad dug a flat little pool in the yard east of our house and lined it with plastic tarp, then filled it with water. Once the water froze, it was our own private ice skating rink! It was one of the coolest things my dad ever did for us, although he did a lot of cool things for us kids. But this one was really impressive. How many poor farm kids had their own ice skating rinks? Anyway, I idolized Brian Boitano and Brian Orser and would make up my own figure ...

LA Kings

I had a meeting at the Chamber of Commerce today that turned out to be pretty interesting. We talked about filming in Los Angeles and some issues related to the decrease in productions recently. I thought that maybe this is something I should try to get more involved in and aware of so that our stakeholders can be kept in the loop. After work, I went up to Susan's house to pick her up and head downtown to Staples Center. We got invited to an LA Kings hockey game and I had never been to a hockey game before so I was really excited. We were in a 'luxury suite' which is about halfway up, there are three rows of them, and we were in the middle. It was about the size of a hotel room and it had a little sitting area with a counter that had food and snacks on it, and some refrigerated cabinets stocked with soda and beer. The game was really exciting. They use lots of loud noises, music, lights and effects to get you into it, as I'm sure they do at all games at Staples. ...
