Running

I went grocery shopping after work to stock up on healthy foods for my new diet and exercise regimen. When I got home, I cooked fish and steamed veggies for dinner, and then went for another jog, this time going farther - I went up Crescent Heights all the way to Hollywood Blvd. and over to Fairfax back down to home. It was exhilarating.

Fred Schnieder

In an attempt to turn over a new leaf and preemptively fight holiday weight-gain, I decided to start a diet and exercise program today, so I had a real healthy lunch. Amoeba was having Fred Schnieder DJ'ing and signing copies of his new band's album, The Superion's "Destination Christmas." I was really looking forward to buying the album on vinyl and having him sign it, but stupidly Amoeba only had it on CD. There were people there with the vinyl copy but they must have gotten it online and brought it in. I reluctantly bought it on CD and got in line to meet him. He didn't recognize me so I reminded him that I was in Shitting Glitter and that he had sent me a Minnie Pearl postcard for New Year's. He asked how the band was going and I told him that I had moved on, and he said it was probably for the best as Shitting Glitter wasn't a "very commercial name." Then he said "nice meeting you" so I guess he forgot that we had actual

Back to the Gym

I am done with Phase I of the South Beach Diet! Woo Hoo! Now here's the tricky part, where I usually screw up, so let's hope I don't this time. It was payday, which is always nice. After work, I went to the gym and worked out. I meant to get there in time for Spin Class, but I couldn't leave work earlier enough so I just ended up doing machines. Afterward, I went to Fresh & Easy to get some healthy, Phase II groceries, and went home and made dinner.

Yoga and Pool Party

We had a streetscape committee at 10am this morning at the Pantages Theatres building in the offices upstairs. I had never been there, or to a streetscape meeting, so it was pretty cool. After work I went to the gym for the first time in ages and did Yoga, which Dylan, Angie and I used to do all the time on Fridays. It felt so good to be doing it again! After that, I went to CVS to get some pistachios to take to Ben's pool party since I wanted something that was on my diet. I also got a Diet Root Beer. I picked James and Marc up to go to the party, and when we got there, Dylan, Angie, Brandon, and Bernie were already there. Alfred and Adam (Marc's new friend) came later. It was fun, but since I am still on the diet and couldn't drink, it wasn't as fun as it probably could have been. Ben seemed to not be having the best time so we left fairly early. I drove James home and then met Dylan at home. Robin is staying with us so we just hung out with her and watched TV

Tristan Torres Starnes 1976-2010

This morning was Tristan's funeral. It was at a catholic church, St. Pauls, down on Washington and Bronson. I picked up Marc and James to go with me, and we met Ben and his parents who were already there when we arrived. Ben told us he had gotten the wrong information to us, and that the service started at 10:30, not 9:30, so we had an hour to waste. First though, James and I did go into the church because they were having the viewing. I was sort of surprised that it was an open casket as those seem to be rare these days. Marc and Ben are both Jewish, and Marc said they don't really do that so neither one of them wanted to go see him, but I still remember going to my first open casket funeral for my great uncle Ted when I was very young. We all went to Starbucks to hang out for awhile before going back to the church. We sat sort of far back and we were definitely a distinct group and I wonder if the family wondered who we all were. Regrettably, I never really got to kno

Solo Boot Camp

Boot Camp started yesterday, but I had made a deal with Robin that I would do boot camp on my own in the evenings after work because I just couldn't hack getting up that early in the morning this time around with the crazy schedule I've got lately. But since we had the late night show on Sunday and the acoustic gig on Monday, I was too beat to do anything last night. So today after work, I went to Runyon Canyon and went up the hard way, all the way to the very top. I was afraid that I wouldn't make it back down before sunset, but I did. Dylan texted while I was on the way down cause he didn't know where I was! When I got home I made steamed artichokes and roasted butternut squash, so it was a healthy dinner. Then we watched TV while I played the Sims on the laptop, which I had dug out to try and get online but couldn't remember the password for our wifi. And as usual, I made Dylan play with my hair while I sat on the floor by the couch. Hello 2010, goodbye jun

Run for your life

Dylan left for work, and for some reason I thought I heard our building manager come in to fix the garbage disposal in the kitchen sink. I swore I heard someone unlock and open the door, and the poke around in the kitchen. But, when I got home later in the day, the disposal still didn't work and it didn't look like anyone had been messing around with it. I told Dylan and he said they would have rang the doorbell before coming in. Is it possible that I dreamed that I heard those noises? Or did I just hear something outside and think it was that? This afternoon I went to LAYN - Los Angeles Youth Network - to tour the facility and meet the new executive director, Matt. He's only been there 6 months but they told him part of his job would be to head the Y!MBY Committee and since that's the group that puts on Connect Day, we decided to meet so we could start making preliminary plans for the event this year. I told him that most likely we will be pushing it back to fal

Boot up my @ss

The rain had already stopped this weekend, so it was a good time to start Boot Camp, although physically I was clearly not ready. I didn't feel all that great when I got up but I didn't feel horrible. I got to Plummer Park before 7am and Luther was the only one there before me. Tony showed up second, then Jim and finally Robin, Moses and Jasten. We started out OK with some leg raises and then some arm and shoulder stuff, and some bicep exercises using our arm bands, but by that time I started feeling a little queasy. I think I threw up 2 out of the 4 first days of boot camp last year, which one of them didn't really count since there was no break between the 3rd and 4th. I thought I was in better shape now since I had done 4 months of boot camp last year, but apparently my bad habits had gotten the best of me over the holidays, because I had to excuse myself from the group and go puke in a corner of the park. It was embarrassing and irritating, but afterward I felt m
