Do not pass go

Kerry was back today, so we had a staff meeting at 3pm.
We got some really disappointing news today. The Jefferson Hollywood, the big new mixed-use project on Highland Avenue that I had toured and attended the opening reception for, had called because we put Robin on the list for a low income unit. Dylan got really, really excited and got the form all filled out and turned in and had been stressed over the weekend because he wanted to make sure he did everything right so she could get the apartment. It would be perfect, because she really needs her own place to live and she would love living in that area of Hollywood - so many things right within walking distance and we would be able to visit her much more often, plus she'd be right by the subway. We didn't want to get her excited about it, but Dylan had to call her to get some of the information to fill out the application.
But today they called Dylan to say she did not qualify for the low-income housing because - get this - she doesn't make enough money!!! How do you get banned from low-income housing for being too low income? It turns out that they aren't truly 'low income' units - the 1 bedrooms rent for $800, which may be low for the building, but you can find one bedroom apartments all over Hollywood for that price. Of course, not as nice and in that prime location, but we're supposed to be talking about a "low income" unit, which normally, as far as I knew, were priced based on the applicant's income level. Dylan was really bummed out, as was I. I felt like it was all my fault for getting them all excited only to have this slap in the face. Now Dylan is really disillusioned on all the 'low income' housing that is being made available in Hollywood, and if it's all like this then it really is unfortunate. You would think that someone who is Robin's age and has Parkinson's and is on government disability income would be the perfect candidate for low income housing, but we've been trying to find a place for her for over a year and nothing has worked out.
