We had our staff holiday lunch today at Larchmont Grill which was really nice. It's an old house that they have converted to a restaurant, right on Melrose near Larchmont, which I've walked by tons of times but never been in before. We sat right in the front room by the fireplace. We brought our gifts to exchange, which was fun; I had Sarah in the 'secret santa' and got her this cool book, The Illustrated World of Mad Men, that Dylan told me about. Sarah is a huge fan of "Mad Men" so I thought it was perfect, and she seemed tickled by it. Kerry had me and she got me a very 'zen' rock water fall fountain for my office (we were supposed to by things for each other's offices). I set mine up as soon as we got back. Kerry gave me my year-end review and I was very thrilled to get a holiday bonus! Since it was my first year here I didn't know if they gave bonuses, and she said they don't always, so I should be thankful that I got one, which...

Demented Disney

I woke up as early as I could since I had so many things I wanted to get done. I didn’t have anything for my costume yet except the pants. First I went to rite-aid and got a pink and purple wig, fingernail polish, and stuff to make breakfast (milk and eggs). I went back home and we had breakfast and then I went back out shopping. Drove to Hollywood, starting at the Giant Dollar and the special store where I got some accessories for my outfit including a necklace, scarf, kittie cat ears, and the little animal collars to wear on my arms and leg. Then I went to Out of the Closet on Sunset but couldn’t find anything there. I parked on Selma and went to Hollywood Toy & Costume - they didn’t have anything I needed so i walked up and down the Blvd. and found a little wig shop which had the purple and pink extensions I had found the other day, and also picked up some yellow and red cat-eye contacts lenses there and a tube of purple lipstick. Went to Iguana but couldn...

Scissor Sisters at the Paladium

I had gone on Facebook last night and saw that Susan had posted this little American Flag on her page to honor the victims of the 9/11 attack and so I put it on my page too, with a little message. It wasn't until after I posted that I realized the flag came from some group called "Being Conservative" or something like that. I decided to leave it, because it really pisses me off how conservatives/republicans like to "claim" 9/11 like it somehow is "their" thing... I mean, it sort of is, since they are the ones who elected Bush and the attacks occurred during his watch, arguably in response to his actions in office. But, of course, that's not the way they frame it. It's like conservatives thing that liberals don't give a shit about our country or our troops. Just because we don't want to keep this country stuck in the past doesn't mean we don't love this country. Just because I may disagree on this being a "christian...

My Debut!

Image
Today was a VERY, VERY big day for me!!! We got up and chatted with Kevin and then I got ready and headed to Hollywood - I wanted to finally buy those Scissor Sisters tickets that I had tried to get before. So, this time I got to the box office of the Palladium on time, and got two tickets! I walked over to Floyd's on Cahuenga and Selma to get my haircut, and then I went to Iguana on Hollywood Blvd. to try and find something to wear tonight. Club Blender's theme for the evening was Durrty Disco, so I wanted to find some Studio 54 type clothes, but couldn't decide on anything. I stopped by the grocery store on the way home to get the supplies for my dishes - there was to be a potluck at the Palms BEFORE Blender, and then Kevin and I would perform between the potluck and the actual club night. My dishes were going to be my mom's Hot Hamburger Dip, which I make often and it's always a hit - it was one of my favorite things my mom would make when I was younger. I als...

Housewarming and Blender

I tried to get up early enough to go to the box office at the Hollywood Palladium to buy Scissor Sisters tickets, but the box office closed at 2 and I wasn't there until about a quarter after. So then I went to Ross Dress-For-Less but I didn't get anything. I ate lunch at this Hawaiian BBQ, but it wasn't as good as Ono. I met Dylan at home and we went to Candle Delirium so that we could get gifts for his cousin's grandma Joan (it was her 80th B-day) and for Jason and Ismael's housewarming. He took off to go up to Joan's and so I went next door to One LA to get underwear since tonight is the Club Blender Underwear Party (after the housewarming). I ended up buying a pair of $42 underwear, which I know is ridiculous - I wonder where my money goes. Back at home, I recorded myself playing the Kylie cover I've been working on ("Get Outta My Way) on my camera as a video, and then watched it - it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. I did so...

Trannyshack

Brandon and Angie really wanted us to go to Trannyshack tonight at the Echo and Dylan wasn't that excited about it so I wasn't sure if we were going to end up going or not. Luckily, Jason was driving and offered to pick us up so that made up our minds to go ahead and go. We went over to Brandon and Angie's place because Luther and Andy were supposed to be meeting us there to have a drink before the club, but they were not there when we arrived and didn't show up for quite awhile. By the time they got there, it was pretty much time to go to the club. I had already probably drank too much because then I made a series of bad decisions which resulted in me being stuck outside for awhile (my wallet was left in Jason's car) and then Dylan and I had to walk really far to go back to the car so we missed some of the performers, and then I did something stupid and I wasn't in a very good mood for the rest of the night. Oh well, some nights out are great and others are...

Bears in Space

Image
Today was Marc's birthday, but instead of having a party, he wanted everyone to go to Akbar for Bears in Space. It was the 1 year anniversary of that club so they were having a parking lot party, which sounded like fun. I hadn't had any time to get a present and I had no idea what to get him, so instead I made a chocolate orange pound cake with orange slices and glaze on top. It looked and smelled delicious but I never got to try any of it other than the batter. Ben came over and Dylan was going to drive us all, but we stopped at Viktor's to give Marc the pound cake so he didn't have to take it to the club and share it with everyone. Marc was driving to the club by himself so I volunteered to ride with him. When we got there, it was fairly sparse but it filled up rather quickly. It was really sunny outside so I had to either hide under and umbrella or stay inside, but it was really fun. It felt like a small pride festival out in the parking lot. Amy and AJ were the...

She Raw Dance Party

Welcome to my 300th Blog entry!!! It was a very busy day today. I have been so broke lately that I couldn't buy the stuff to make my costume for tonight until now. So on my lunch break I went to Hollywood Toy and Costume and got a cape and some hair color. I'm dressing up as Red Mist from the movie Kick-Ass tonight when I DJ at this event called She-Raw that my friend Annie, who was the singer in Ask Alice, is putting on at the Que Sera. Then I stopped by the Goodwill and the special store to get the rest of my outfit. When I got home from work, I quickly started sewing my costume. Brandon and Dylan went to boot camp but I didn't have time since I only had about an hour to get my costume completed, which luckily I did although I ran a bit late and was not quite done by the time Dylan got back. I told him we had to leave in 15 minutes, which was really wishful thinking since I still hadn't even gotten ready yet at all. Finally, we hit the road around 8:30 although...

I got up before Dylan for a change, started a pot of coffee (I only drink coffee on Sunday, usually) and made some breakfast burritos with eggs, cheese, and bell peppers - orange, yellow and red. I had a training session at 2pm at the Hollywood City Hall for the Hollywood Homeless Registry, also known as 100,000 Homes - Hollywood. At the training, we got into our teams and the folks from Common Ground walked us through the registry process we'll be doing the next few mornings out on the streets of Hollywood, surveying homeless people on their health and housing needs. My team members are Amanda, Jake and Jenna, and I am the team leader. I'm really looking forward to working with them. After the training, I went home and made dinner, which was Mandarin (fake/veggie) chicken sandwiches. I've been doing pretty good still following my pescetarian diet; no slip ups for quite some time now. After dinner, I tried to go get some sleep, but it just didn't happen. The reason...

The grossest quesadilla

Today I had sort of planned to hang out with my friend Ryan and through Facebook we had discussed going on a hike. Luckily we both sort of pretended we had never discussed that and instead just hung out at my apartment for a little while (I played him some clips from SNL with Tina Fey hosting, including the Sarah Palin Network spoof and the Justin Beiber sketch) and then we went and met some of his friends at Hamburger Mary's. He dropped me off at home later (after playing some songs by a singer, Gabriella Cilmi, who is really good) and I watched TV for awhile before walking down the blvd. to meet Marc. Marc and I went to Mickey's to meet up with Brad, Alf, Ryan and Tommy. We got a table on the patio and hung out there for most of the night; it was fun. Eventually, Marc and I left and we thought we might stop by Fubar or Los Tacos but we just ended up each going home. I drunkenly watched "Romy & Michele's High School Reunion" which is one of my favorite mov...

we can be heroes

Shitting Glitter has been trying to get a real video made for ages now, and a few months ago I had asked everyone in the band if they knew anyone that might be able to do one. Red had asked her friend who said she was too busy at the moment to do anything for us. Then, on Facebook a fan that I had met a couple years ago when we played at Girl Bar wrote to us to say he wanted to make a video for us. Well it turns out that he goes to school with Red's friend who she had asked before. So, it looks like they will be collaborating on a video for us soon, which I'm very excited about. Meanwhile, I'm excited to announce that I will be putting on my DJ headphones once again! I am going to be one of three DJ's at CPRR's She-Raw event which is organized by Annie, formerly of Ask Alice. It's a queer superhero-themed dance party at the Que Sera in Long Beach next month with a female-rock vibe. Dylan and I are thinking we'll dress up as Hit Girl and Red Mist from ...

Easter and Erotic City

When I was a kid, Easter meant going to church and talking about Jesus being reborn (sometimes we even had to go to the "sunrise service") and then we'd go home and get baskets full of candy. When I was really young, we'd go to the Paradise Park for an easter egg hunt put on by the 4-H club members who would hide plastic eggs full of candy and, if you were lucky enough to find them, money. As I got older, I was in the 4-H club so then I stuffed and hid the eggs. Full Circle. Nowadays, I'm an atheist and don't have any kids so Easter is the one holiday that I usually forget about until the day of, and therefore forget to even put up the decorations (yes, I do own Easter decorations). But this year we were invited to Dylan's Aunt Renee's house for Easter Sunday and we were excited since there would be kids there (and free food). It was really fun, we got to watch the kids color easter eggs and then the adults hid them and the kids had an easter egg ...

Good Friday and Asian Kink

I did some work and then I remembered that Dylan only had to work half a day because of Good Friday, so I called Susan to see if we were only working half a day. She said we were working a full day, but that she needed me to come up to her place to issue checks and that if I got done early I could go. So, I went up there and worked but I ended up only being able to leave about an hour early. It was nice anyway. When I got home, I had just enough time to finish cleaning and putting the drums back together before I had to leave for rehearsal. Actually, I ended up getting on the road later than I meant to and I was really worried that I would be really late getting to Ben's house. However, there was like no traffic because of the holiday so I made it to his place in a half hour, which is a record! It usually takes me an hour or more. We had a really good rehearsal. Brandon had brought Pabst Blue Ribbon which was nice, and I had my whole drum set since it was all now cleaned up a...

Brandon's Birthday

Happy 31st Birthday to my brother, Brandon! Welcome to the 30+ club! The workday went pretty well, and I went to work at Susan's house to pay bills and got to see her poor ol' dog, Forrest, who had been attacked by a wild animal the other day. He was laying on a blanket in the living room when I got there, so I was really worried about him. But later, he was up and around, and came and stood next to me in the office so I could pet him. Forrest is one of those dogs that I bonded with right away and he seems to know how much I love him. He always comes over to me and expects me to pet him, since I usually do, but when I stop he uses his paw to try to move my hand back onto his head! It's so cute. I stupidly left my phone at Susan's house and didn't realize until after I got home. Carrie was supposed to be meeting me so I could let her in since she is staying with us now for a few days, but I had no way to contact her. I tried e-mailing and IM'ing Dylan on ...

The Baub Show and the Sassy Show

I tried to do some work at home since my office is in disarray, but I had to go in to finish moving everything into a completely different room. Almost everything is carpeted now on my floor except for my office and the hallway around my office. So, I had a couple of my security guys come over to help me move the heavy stuff down the hall into one of the finished offices so that my office can get re-carpeted tomorrow. I had to rush to get ready when I got home because not only did we have a show later tonight, but we also were doing a radio interview for The Baub Show (www.thebaubshow.c0m). We've known Baub for a long time, because he is good friends with Eric who used to dance for us, and I think he was roommates with Denny at one point if I remember correctly. He had had an internet radio show for awhile now, which I've known about because he's interviewed Tiffany a couple times on there. I see him at almost every Tiffany show I go to. Anyway, Amy wanted to do the in...

Puppetry Part Two

Today was our first board meeting of the new year so I was a little stressed out getting ready for it. It all came together of course and everything went pretty smoothly, despite the fact that it was a little long (over 2 hours), but since we hadn't met in January it made sense. After work, I stopped by Smart & Final on my way home to buy some supplies for catering the video shoot this weekend. I always appreciate a chance to show of my cooking and food prep skills so I had volunteered Dylan and myself to take care of all the food for the shoot. I wanted to do breakfast burritos for the morning, and sandwiches and salads for lunch. I ended up getting all the stuff for the burritos, along with stuff for a green salad and potato salad. When I got home, I made the potato salad first and by the time that was finished, our dinner was ready. I had put two Cornish Game Hens in the slow cooker earlier in the day (I had come home on my lunch break) so we had those with cornbread s...

Going top 40

It was terribly difficult to wake up and contemplate taking on Runyon Canyon, but I did it, and I was so glad that I did. Unlike other "first days" of boot camp, we didn't go up to the top of "Big Mama," the notoriously steep highest peak of the entire park. Instead, we did the stairs on the east side, which while not the easiest route is one that I'm so used to that it doesn't bother me too much. I was discouraged by how difficult it was for me, having done boot camp so many times before here I was thinking it would get easier. But Robin does always say, no matter how many times you do Runyon, it never gets easy. After that I had to hurry up and get to work because I had a 9am appointment with a guy who is working with property owners on LaBrea who are interested in starting up a BID. He was a nice guy and he had quite a few questions for me about the Media District and how we had been able to do what we've done, how we got started, and what ou...
