Arabesco

We got up and then Brandon, Angie and Tiger came over for brunch, like we had planned last night. Angie was making pumpkin pancakes, and I made eggs with parsley, cilantro, tomato, cheese and almonds. We had mimosas also (of course). After brunch, we watched this movie "Off the Charts: The Song Poem Story" that Brandon had gotten from Netflix. Several months ago, while exploring on Wikipedia, I had come across this phenomenon of 'song poems,' which is where people would respond to an ad in the back of a magazine that would say the company was looking for 'songwriters.' The person would send in their lyrics, and then for a fee, a company would set the words to music and make it a song. Usually the ad would make some claims that they would also distribute the song and try to make it a 'hit,' but in reality they were just churning out these songs non-stop and making money from the poor saps who thought they were going to be the next big songwriter. ...

Night Work

Today, the new Scissor Sisters album, Night Work , was released so I waited for lunch break and then I walked over to Amoeba and met Marc there. I looked for it on vinyl first of course (usually, new vinyl albums come with either a CD or a digital download, so it's a great deal), but it wasn't there. Marc and I went to the information counter and he was asking them when it was coming out on vinyl, and if they had the 12" single on order, or even a CD single, or if they had this other import album that was supposed to be coming out called "K Mart Disco" which is a collection of their early recordings. The guy was having trouble getting us any information and Marc was getting really frustrated with them for not ordering these items to stock, since we would have bought some of them. Since Marc was a buyer at Virgin Megastore for years, it has really sucked since they closed because Amoeba is not always good about keeping up on new releases, especially singles an...

May the best woman win!

I made myself get up at 6:30 and get ready for boot camp. While I was getting ready, I woke Carrie up accidentally but she didn't seem to mind. Robin worked us out hard; when he's sick and doesn't do the exercises himself, I get much more self conscious because he can see how badly I do. I have never been good at working out and I seem to get worn out before others do, but I am trying. At least I didn't throw up. When I got home, Carrie and Dylan were both up and around, and Carrie had done all the dishes! I laid down for a little bit and then got ready for work; Carrie and I left at the same time. She was taking the bus to the subway to the airport. Encouraged by the two recent reviews of "Open For Business" (one in Frontiers in LA and the other in Edge Boston, both of which I had contacted myself), I mailed out 5 CD's to various radio stations. I don't know if radio stations (even college stations) actually play random CD's they get in the...
