Machete

We only had a half-day of work since it's the Friday of Labor Day weekend, but we all ended up being so busy and frantic that we didn't get out of the office until almost 3. At least we still got to leave a little early. Dylan is planning a trip later this month since he really needs to go on a vacation, and since I don't have any vacation time yet he is going without me. I was kind of upset because he is going to Portland to see Kevin without me! But I know he will have fun. He's also going to Seattle to see his friend Leah and stay with her for a week. We went to the Drive-In to meet Brandon and Angie, and we picked up Robert on the way since he lives right off the 10 freeway which is how we go to the Drive In. We've been wanting to take him for awhile since it's so convenient to pick him up on the way. The first movie we saw was "Machete" which was great. I really enjoyed Lindsay Lohan as usual, and this was quite a wild role for her. It was ...

I-70 Drive in

Adrienne drove us over to Katie's parent's house so we could go swimming in their pool. It was a gorgeous day and I pointed out to Dylan how nice a Kansas City afternoon could be poolside! Katie's parents had several dogs who all enjoyed swimming, and so did Katie and Dan's dog Cuzco, so we wanted Maddie to swim too. It took her quite a while to warm up to the idea but she was a natural at it. At first we would have to sort of push her in, and then she would just start swimming as fast as she could to the other side, so we would have to turn her around so she could go back to the steps so that she could get out. But eventually we would be in the pool and Adrienne would call to her and she would just jump in on her own and swim out to Adrienne! It was so cute. I felt so happy to be there for her first swim just as if I was watching a kid take his or her first steps. For now the Strecker family is content with dogs in lieu of children! We swam there for most the a...

Garage Sale

I slept in and then at some point (1:15pm!) I finally got up and said "why did you let me sleep so late?" Dylan said "you better be talking to your alarm clock." I warmed up some leftover from brunch yesterday and then Dylan and I got ready and picked Marc up to go to Amoeba's first "garage sale." We didn't know what to expect but our friend Adrienne who works there did text us to let us know it would indeed be in the garage, after having told us the other night at El Coyote that she didn't think it was. Dylan had some records in a crate that he wanted to trade in so I helped him carry them in but then I went right down to the sale. I ran into Adrienne and her boyfriend Quinn while I was entering the garage. There were so many people down there and there were boxes everywhere, many of them on the floor, and the lighting wasn't the greatest so it was kind of difficult to really go through everything. I went through quite a few boxes of 4...

Hot Tub Time Machine

I forgot to mention yesterday that I started recording a cover of "Hurt" by Re-Flex and when I went to play it for Dylan when he got home from his bike ride, my computer wasn't working. I tried to restart it, and that didn't work. It quickly became apparent that my computer is screwed. Hopefully it won't affect my blogging too much, and also I really hope I can get it fixed soon, because all the songs I was working on for my solo album were on there and of course like an idiot I never backed them up onto another drive. I made a really good brunch this morning - eggs with green onions, cilantro, and cheddar cheese plus home made hash browns. I sort of tried to fix the computer but nothing was working so I gave up really quickly. It did boot up from the CD that came with it, but it won't go to my desktop. We went to meet Brandon and Angie at the Drive-In to see "Hot Tub Time Machine" and "She's Out of My League" which we had been real...

Valentine's Day

Johnny woke Dylan and I up with breakfast in bed! He made eggs with tomatoes and artichokes, and cut out heart shapes from fresh oranges, and black coffee. It was so sweet of him. I got up and took a shower and then packed my bag. We hung out and talked for awhile but then Marc was texting to see when we were picking him up, so we finished getting packed and said goodbye to Johnny. Back at the whore house, Amy and AJ were already leaving when we got there so we got to say Happy Valentines to them and saw them off. Red and Laura had already left the night before, so then it was just Marc, Billie and us left there with Heather and Shantell. My car was already almost loaded up so we just had to put a couple things I had left there in and we were good to go. It's always so hard saying goodbye to Heather and Shantell but I always know we'll see them again soon. The drive back was nice and actually kind of relaxing. A few years ago, Denny had burned me 100 mix CD's of vari...
