I had to be back at the Chamber of Commerce this morning at 8am for another Walk of Fame meeting. This year is the Walk of Fame's 50th anniversary so there are some events coming up that we are planning, including a Community Festival on July 25 which sounds really exciting. I'm really looking forward to touring the Capitol Records building, which is going to be one of the activities that day. It's an iconic building that's not usually open to the public. My favorite association with that building is in the film "Dig" where Courtney Taylor-Taylor goes there to bitch about the way the record company is treating them - that's about all I remember about it, but it was classic. Maybe Brandon can shed some light on that scene. I saw on my calendar that it was "Canada Day" so I sent messages to R and J up in Winnipeg. Later that day I went to the groundbreaking for the Villas at Gower, a project that is going to provide homes for homeless people. ...

Day two of training and being trained. Today, Katie did come in to run over things with me, so that was very helpful, although at times I felt a little overwhelmed. I do think I will be great at this job and that I will love it but I'm also a little scared since, although it's very similar to my old job, there are a lot of differences. I felt a lot better today in general, since yesterday I was kind of groggy from LA Pride weekend, and disoriented with the whole new job thing. Today I was in a much better mood. After work, I went to Amoeba to get the new Devo CD! I wanted to buy the record, but they told me that the vinyl wouldn't be out until next month, so I went ahead with the CD. Welcome to the first "How I Fell In Love With" post of 2010! For those not familiar, this is my series where I detail my various obsessions, which are mainly 80's bands but can also encompass other pop culture figures and phenomenons. Devo is a band that I have been a fan of for the better part of my life. My earliest recollection of them is seeing them in this paperback book I had bought at school through a book fair or one of those flyer things that kids get. It was a book about Music Videos, which were pretty new and all the rage at the time when I was in grade school, with MTV being pretty new but getting very popular. I remember there was a photo of Devo, I think from the inside of the "Shout" album, and it called them "music video pioneers" which I thought was cool.
