well, well... that's a deep subject

There have been a lot of random things happening and unfortunately I haven't been good about blogging this year so let's play catch-up! These photos are not at all in the right order but I'm too lazy to rearrange them so I'll just discuss the events out-of-0rder. These first two pictures are from an afternoon at MEAT Clown Studios in North Hollywood. This is me as the "Meat Magician." This is Dylan as the British "Meat Clown." MEAT Clown is sort of the mascot for The Stranger Page , a website and "outsider art" studio ran by my friend Shawn, who directed my music video for "Alien Nation." He and his team have been making these YouTube videos that parody local television commercials, for "discount meat products" featuring their spokesperson, Meat Clown. Several different people have participated now, portraying different Meat Clowns. They film them in front of a green screen and are, for the most par...

The 62nd Prime Time Emmys

Emmy day arrives! I set my alarm to wake up early with Adrienne to help her do some errands, but when I first got up, she said she was going to go have her nails done and get some coffee, so I went back to sleep until she returned. Then I drove her to the Grove because she wanted to get Dylan a gift for taking her, so we went to Nordstrom's and got him a real bow-tie - as in, not a clip on. The saleslady was super nice and helped us pick out a really cool purple and pink striped one. Then Adrienne got some makeup at the Mac counter and we went to Coffee Bean to get Dylan a Latte. Back home, Adrienne gave Dylan his gift, which he was thrilled with. We spent the next half hour or so watching You Tube videos trying to figure out how to tie the damned thing! As Adrienne and Dylan were getting ready, they realized they didn't need to leave as soon as they thought they did, which was great for them since it meant they had more time to get ready, but bad because I knew if I wait...

Back to the 50's

Image
Every year, the Stunt Performer's Group has a big party at the TV Academy to honor their nominees for the Emmy's, and it's always a theme party and one of the most fun of the year. This year the theme was '50's and they had Bowzer from Sha Na Na there as the host. The decorated the courtyard in front of the theatre to look like a diner, and it was really cool! I didn't have time to really go find an outfit, but Dylan said I'd be fine if I just wore a white t-shirt, jeans, and did my hair up in a pompadour. I was worried because I thought I didn't look very good to be going to a cool party, but when I got there, all Dylan's co-workers were complimenting me on my hair and asking me how long it took me to do it. So, I was fine after all! Since Dylan's head is shaved now, he borrowed my Elvis wig. The party was really fun. They had some dancers that did a sort of "west side story" routine to kick things off and then they had a video o...

Costume Designers Gala

Image
Dylan and I were going to the Opening Gala for the Outstanding Art of Television Costume Design Exhibition. This is an annual event held downtown at FIDM (Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising) that we usually go to, because Dylan usually has to work there since it's also a TV Academy event. They do the nomination receptions at this event for the costume design Emmy nominees. It's always a really fun party with great food and an open bar. I got up and dyed my eyebrows, and then had Dylan do my eyelashes. I meant to do my hair too, but I got too lazy. Then got my outfit ironed for the event. Dylan and I went to Jack in the Box on the way downtown since we hadn't eaten anything and we had to get there early since Dylan was helping set up (although just the reception table, not the whole event). Dylan wanted to get a new shirt so we went to Macy's on 7th street. He ended up getting a neat grey button down shirt with a damask sort of pattern. We parked at F...

Happy Birthday, Brad!

We went to see the movie MacGruber at the TV Academy today. I was going to go by myself, but luckily, Dylan decided to join me, and then we called Angie and Brandon and they decided to come too since Brandon didn't have to work today after all. Then we decided to see if Ben would go and he said he would meet us at the theatre, and then go to Brad's birthday party with us. So, Dylan and I took the bus to Hollywood and Highland to find a present for Brad, then we rode the subway up to North Hollywood and met Brandon and Angie at Big Wangs for a beer before going to the theatre. The movie was actually really funny, we all really enjoyed it. It was basically a lampoon of 80's action movies but there were lots of good one liners and jokes. Kristen Wiig was the highlight, of course. After the movie, Ben drove us home and he walked with us to Hamburger Mary's for Brad's birthday. We got there a little early so we could get a good seat, and Ron was the only one there...

An Evening with Modern Family

I met with one of my stakeholders who took me out to lunch today. He had a lot of really good ideas about things I can do in the District, and in our newsletter. Hopefully I can implement some of his ideas soon. It was also nice to catch up with him as he was one of the board members when I first got hired here in 2002, but he hasn't been on the board since 2005. After lunch, I went across the street to Frosted, a new "cupcakery" in the BID. It's a bright blue building on the corner of Highland and Lexington and they have delicious and beautiful cupcakes. I splurged and had two different kinds, the Orange Cream and the Neapolitan. Yummy! After work I went over to Amy's and then we walked to the Subway. It was nice walking through Hollywood and it was the first time I'd been to the Hollywood/Vine Metro Station since the new W Hotel has been finished; it's quite impressive but a little odd to see a huge high-end hotel opening in this economy. We got to...

Youth in Revolt

It was raining even harder today. I love the sound of the rain outside my office. It's so rare that the days here in LA are anything but warm and sunny that I relish whatever other weather we get. I actually know people here who hate the rain and get all upset about it, or cold days, which is so funny to me. When I got home from work, I noticed the repair man had been in and fixed the fan in the bathroom! It has never worked since we moved in, I just assumed it was old and out of commission. But recently, I had looked up in the sunlight and noticed all the paint was peeling off. It looked really bad, and I thought maybe there was a leak, so I notified our building managers and they said it was because the fan didn't work so the steam from the shower was condensing on the wall. Usually we don't shut the door all the way when we're showing but since Robin had been staying with us so much last year, the door would be shut a lot and it just really damaged the paint o...
