All Duran Duran's albums ranked!

Image
Duran Duran's 14th album came out last Friday, so in honor of their amazing career I thought I'd rank all of their studio albums! Duran Duran has been one of my favorite bands since I can remember. They were at the height of their popularity just as I was starting to become aware of pop culture and listening to the radio. Their songs were played on the radio all the time when I was around 8 years old, and they were the favorite band of my cousin, Travis, who I idolized. So naturally I became interested in them and followed their career through the highs and the lows. I remember being in my cousin Scott's wedding when I was a junior in high school, and on the drive there, the DJ announced that "Ordinary World" was #1, and that song was from what has become known as "The Wedding Album" which was very fitting and special for me on that day. Several years later, in college, is when I went from being more of a superficial fan (I really only had known their si...

Disco Fever - for a Good Cause!

Today was another busy day. We had a board meeting for HED, but since the PAL Event was tonight, we bumped the board meeting up earlier since both Kerry and Thad are involved in PAL (which is the Police Activities League). The theme of the event was Disco, so I went to Iguana on my lunch break and bought a shiny black shirt and a pair of gold glittery alien sunglasses, thinking it could kind of not only work for the Disco look but also for the Alien Nation video, which we're going to film next month. The board meeting went well, and then afterward Kerry and I walked down to the Music Box for the PAL Event. Sarah met us there later because she went home to get dressed. There were tons of people I knew there, so during the first part I mingled and visited with everyone. There was a silent auction and open bar, but I just had a couple glasses of wine and I didn't bid on anything because it was all so expensive. There were some great prizes, though. Then we moved inside to th...

The Gay Pimp

It was a very busy day today. First, we had a renewal/expansion meeting for Sunset/Vine at the YMCA. We had catering from Chipotle so I had a burrito, which really wasn't on my diet. During the meeting, Brian called with a question for me so I went out to the courtyard and I saw Jonny McGovern (aka the Gay Pimp)! He's on the Big Gay Sketch Show but I've been a fan of his for a long time since his video for "Soccer Practice" and his podcast which Dylan and I used to listen to all the time. Later in the afternoon we had a Sunset/Vine board meeting at AMPAS and that went pretty well too. Our board president just had a baby so he was out, but we got him this cute bomber jacket for his new son that we all signed the card for. After work, Luther and Andrew came over to return the clothes they had borrowed for the glam birthday party they went to on Sunday so we hung out with them for awhile, it was fun.

Lord of the Rings

I can't remember how much of this I've already explained, but we had been planning on going to Palm Springs this weekend for Luther's Birthday. However, since Kevin was coming to visit, and then this whole thing with us performing at Blender panned out, we canceled our Palm Springs plans, and then Kevin decided to come down early. So, he is arriving tonight! I left work a little early because we are going to Red's birthday party in Santa Monica and it starts at 6pm. I wanted to get some beer to bring, and I also wanted to exchange my camera at Target today since tomorrow the gays are going to start boycotting Target, since they made a big donation to an anti-gay candidate in Minnesota. Since this was my second camera to not work, I decided to get a different brand. I got an Olympus since I read online their cameras were really good. I ended up just spending an extra $20. Then I went to BevMo to get some beer for Red's party, and I got some Whipped Cream flavor...

Saturday in West Hollywood

Dylan and I had all these big plans for the holiday weekend, but already they were starting to get pushed aside in favor of just relaxing. We had intended to get up [fairly] early and drive down to Newport Beach for this gay yacht party which sounded fun, but also for me those things are much better if we go with a group of people. Sometimes I don't like having to make new friends, especially if it's with a bunch of hot gay guys with hot bodies. Not that I don't want them as friends, it's just hard to go up and talk to them sometimes. So, we slept in and then we decided to walk up the street for brunch. We were going to eat at this place called The Griddle which is just on Sunset and Fairfax but it's always so busy we've never braved the crowds there. I t hought maybe since it was a holiday weekend, it wouldn't be as bad, but I was wrong so we ended up checking out this little Italian place called Vivoli Cafe that I've always wanted to try. They ha...
