Tranvision Vamp
Today the BID Consortium met in Hollywood at The Palladium which is a big, historic music venue. I had never been there before so I was really excited to finally see it. Our lunch meeting was in the champagne room and a lot of people attended. It was good and informational.
There was a new Bottom Feeders blog today and one of the songs listed was "Tell That Girl to Shut Up" by Transvision Vamp (it made it to #87 in 1988). I discovered them when they first came out via "Night Tracks" on TBS if I'm not mistaken. They would show the video for that song and "I Want Your Love" and I went out and bought one or both of those cassette singles. I never ended up getting that into, as I never purchased their album, but later in the 90's when Napster came about I did end up downloading some of their songs and always remembered them fondly.
In 2003 when I finally got to see Voice of the Beehive live in Birmingham, Tracey made some comment about Wendy from Transvision Vamp and from what I gathered it seemed like she didn't care for her much. I asked her to elaborate more later but couldn't get much information out of her, although it seemed like maybe back in the day the two bands must have gotten compared to each other and probably shared a lot of the same fan base. I think Wendy might have had more of a "reputation" and Tracey didn't want to be associated with that. Anywho, it just made me go back and explore more of Transvision's back catalog and there are actually quite a few songs of theirs that I really like.
Anyway, someone who goes by the name "Drybaby" had left a comment about Wendy and some links to his or her websites which basically exist solely to bash and defame Wendy and any of her musical forays, via snarky commentary and unflattering photos. It was kind of interesting to go through it in that car-accident sort of way where you just can't stop looking even though you know you should display some tact and move on. I've seen people rip other's (especially celebrities) online before, but this went to new extremes. This person has made it his or her life's work to trash Wendy James it seems, which is very kind of bizarre to me since here in the US she really was never all that popular and most people probably don't even know who she is. Plus, the amount of time devoted to these websites is staggering. I don't know Wendy James personally but hopefully she doesn't let it get to her.
Hello 2010, goodbye junk!
NEW YEARS RESOLUTION LOG ENTRY 54
Speaking of Voice of the Beehive, I decided to part with a VHS copy of the last music video they ever filmed, "So Hard" which was the last single off their last album, "Sex & Misery" back in 1996. I obtained this video tape by writing to their record label at the time, Discover, and they were nice enough to just mail me the video. Back in the day record labels did things like that for fans! I was so happy when I got it in the mail, too, I made my whole family and some friends watch it with me. I've transferred all their videos onto DVD now (I'm still working on making a nice DVD of it to send to all the band members) and this video and most of the others can be seen on YouTube, so I don't need the VHS copy anymore despite my sentimental attachment to it.

And I should know..
http://drybaby.wordpress.com/2009/04/28/let-charm-into-your-soul/
That was my site in the 1990's..
21st century efforts to portray Wendy James as some immortal being who has not aged hardly and has continued to enjoy the public's wide support never go anywhere good..
http://drybaby1.blogspot.com/2009/10/lying-about-her-age-and-being-high.html
Ironic that you say that Wendy was never a big star in the U.S and most people wouldn't know her..
That is totally true of course..
But..
It is almost the exact opposite to Miss James public claims about her success in recent years..
http://drybaby1.blogspot.com/2008/09/doctorwendys-cocaine-ego-is-talking.html
(and yes that site has since removed that embarrassing interview.)
Especially in the US..
Her band have never played any gigs in America but it hasn't stopped her from claiming they did TWO tours of both the West Coast and East Coast in interviews..
Far from recognising her status in the modern music biz she believes (genuinely believes) herself to be a much bigger star than she actually is..
And has ruthlessly tried to "impose" that untrue and made up image on any public discussion of her career..
http://drybaby1.blogspot.com/2008/12/funny-thing-happened-on-way-to-forum.html
She regularly kicks people off her Facebook page if they don't stick to the "Aren't You Great Wendy!" tone of it..
http://drybaby1.blogspot.com/2009/06/i-need-racine-3456.html
And if she doesn't like what you submit (which is almost 99%) she does this..
http://drybaby1.blogspot.com/2009/10/mahogany-girlfriend.html
Her own messageboard on her own website was closed down when people there would not tow the company line..
http://drybaby1.blogspot.com/2008/05/year-racine-wasnt-really-wendy-james.html
Then the website itself was closed..
http://drybaby1.blogspot.com/2008/12/dont-think-twiceits-alright.html
Very very quietly with no public announcement..
And her most recent "band" Racine have also been given the whitewash treatment in interviews last year..
http://drybaby1.blogspot.com/2010/02/if-you-want-to-send-me-money.html
Which Wendy then tried to syndicate secretly across the internet..
http://drybaby1.blogspot.com/2009/08/chelsea-girl.html
Oh and by the way HERE are the rest of those Leopard Skin photos which you think show her "age" so well..
http://drybaby1.blogspot.com/2008/01/all-hail-our-beloved-sponsor.html
Yes even back then she was using them..
Wendy does like to RECYCLE her few photos..over and over and over.
http://drybaby1.blogspot.com/2009/06/have-you-not-got-any-new-photos-for.html
So Wendy James in 2010 is not someone deserving of any positive spin..
So DryBaby doesn't give her any.
You don't mind if I use a screenshot of this blog entry in a future blog on my site do ya..?
Thought not.
See ya
