Sleepytown

As very few people know, I have been slaving away in my spare time on a collection of songs that I have written myself in the hopes of some day releasing a "solo album".
I started writing songs when I was very young. My parents bought a piano, at what age I was I don't recall, and my mom and I began taking lessons from our neighbor, Peggy Anschutz, who lived on the farm just north of ours. I didn't always enjoy having to practice, but I did like playing the piano and inventing my own songs, so at my first recital Peggy let me play a song that I had written. It didn't have words except for in my head; I was always much too shy and scared to ever think of playing and singing at the same time throughout most of my childhood. It was only recently, in the past few years, that I finally started working on that. Despite that, I have been writing songs in my head for most of my life, some of them had made it to the point where I would sing them to myself when I was alone, and some of them I even started recording once I finally had the technology to do so. Since then, my songwriting and producing skills have steadily been improving, but they're still not to the point where I would want anything I've done alone to be available publicly.
Last night I finished a demo of a song that has been in my head for about 5 years now, so I wanted to at least share the lyrics here. I won't say too much with regards to what it's "about" as I like to hear different interpretations, but it concerns a (mostly) theoretical situation, inspired by my hometown. I've italicized the passages that are dialogue from the girl character, as opposed to the main character (or narrator's) dialogue.

Sleepytown

Where is everybody?
She's always asking me
I tell her they're in bed just like she should be
Why is it so quiet?
And what would happen if I scream?
Would someone come to rescue or would they even hear me?
And I said not to worry, nothing's gonna happen here
There isn't much to favor but there's even less to fear
here in Sleepytown
No open eyes to meet tonight
here in Sleepytown
But if you listen you can hear the city far away
Doesn't anybody feel the same as I?
There's nowhere else I'd rather be than way up in the sky
I'd fly around the world and find the most beautiful place
Then I'd come back you and all our friends
and we'd live forever in a state of grace
And I said you're a dreamer and I hope you'll always be
The hardest part is believing when you're out there running free
from Sleepytown
No open eyes to meet tonight
here in Sleepytown
But if you listen close you'll hear the city far away
We walk these silent streets
you search for signs of life impatiently
I know one day you'll want to leave
Your widened eyes
Your wandering feet
Your sense of curiosity
I hope you'll never forget me
Sleepytown...
no open eyes to meet tonight
here in Sleepytown
but if you listen you can hear the city far away
No open eyes to meet tonight
if you listen close you can hear the city
No open eyes to meet tonight
But if you listen close you'll hear....

The happy news is I am excited to hear Sleepytown to music and I think they are wonderful. The sad news is I am so sorry you didn't feel like you could share them with anyone when you were younger. How painful that must have been for you :(

Oh am I lucky! I got to hear Sleepytown last night! It is amazing! I've been singing the chorus all day. This song needs finished and released soon! The only thing I noticed that it needs though is a guitar part... Do you know anyone who could do that?

Really, this song is great! Fantastic.

I like the lyrics very much too!
