Waiting for Moonlight
"Civil Twilight" is a song that came about very quickly, about a year ago. I first decided I liked the title one day when going down a Wikipedia hole and reading about civil twilight, which is "the brightest phase of twilight, the illumination of the lower atmosphere when the Sun itself is not directly visible because it is below the horizon."
When I wrote the lyrics, I was actually imagining the music video at the same time, but it remains to be seen if I'll ever actually shoot that video. The video being released later today is a lyrics visualizer, meaning it includes the lyrics and I do appear in it, singing, underneath or next to the lyrics, but it's not a true music video. In what would and maybe will be the real video, the first verse would find me in a park at dusk, thinking I am there for a rendezvous, when I see the one I adore with another person. In the second verse, the action would take place on the deck of a ship at sea, and I would see the same person coming down the steps. Thinking it was finally our moment, then devastated to watch the person run into the arms of another.
Anyway, as I said this song came together very quickly and I recorded it initially for inclusion on the Mannifred LaCroix EP "International Agent" and began rehearsing it in that context. But, things changed, I decided to make it a Devin Tait album, and I worked with Craig Levy at Little Pioneer Cider House to add acoustic guitar and mix it. After it was finished, I sent it to Bilal Studio for what I thought at the time would be a remix. When I heard the finished product, I was completely in love with it, and decided to make it the "album version" as well as the single version, but saved my original version for inclusion on the single release.
